Dr. Polin Lay was born in Cambodia, moved to the U.S when she was six years old, and was raised in Northern Virginia.
When Dr. Lay was fourteen years old; she received her first eye exam. She was so fascinated by all the equipment used during her exam that her optometrist offered her a shadowing position. Since then, her passion for optometry grew immensely and she dedicated herself to working for a local optometrist during high school.
She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Biology at the University of Virginia and completed her Doctor of Optometry degree at Inter-American University of Puerto Rico. During Optometry school, Dr. Lay provided free vision screenings/ exams in poverty-stricken areas throughout Puerto Rico and was awarded the Volunteer Community Service Award upon graduation. After finishing optometry school, Dr. Lay moved back home to Virginia.
Dr. Lay is an active member of the American Optometric Association, Virginia Optometric Association, and the Northern Virginia Optometric Society.
Dr. Lay enjoys traveling, immersing herself in different cultures, learning new languages, and spending time with her family and her two dogs, Hailie a miniature Dachshund and Ellie a German Shepherd.
